Overview

Malhar is an intercollegiate youth festival conducted by the students of St. Xavier's College, Mumbai in India for the past 31 years.

If you were present at the campus of St. Xavier’s College when it is being held, you would know that it exudes a cinematic aroma of sorts.

The Challenge

Malhar is a college event well known for its youthful energy and zest. Hundreds of college students attend Malhar every year.

It comprises events like dance shows, rock concerts, announcement making, speech making, etc, which demands installing world class sound systems all over the campus.

Analysis

When the organisers of Malhar approached us for sponsorship, we felt the theme Malhar - "The Movie" suited us perfectly as we are the authorized franchisee of Dolby in India; in turn we were awarded the title of "Audio Solutions Partner" of the festival. We promised to raise the bar of the sound reinforcement and offer them a never before sound experience.

The Solution

The R & S team took the opportunity of designing a sound reinforcement system that would cater to the requirements of 30,000 people who were expected to arrive at the event.

The focus was on providing a high SPL (Sound Pressure Level) and good coverage of this sound. The main speakers were flown for uniform coverage and the emphasis was on the low frequency sub woofers.

The foyer and the first quadrangle of the grand Xavier’s campus were installed with the state of the art Pulz Quartet line array speakers where events such as the inter band competition and the Bollywood dance competition would take place.

The R & S team set up the system at all the three venues, quickly and were on-site till the event was over.

The Result

Malhar 2009 was an event to remember as it gathered warm praise from the audience.

The sound systems made Malhar 2009 a blockbuster event.
