That’s the philosophy which Jamnabai Narsee School has been promoting for the last 35 years.
The school endeavors to teach children to take pride in themselves as Indian citizens in an ambience of universal values and Indian culture

The Challenge

The sound system used for their famous hall was outdated. It was hired as and when needed.

Worse, it paled in comparison with the rest of the state of the art facility.

The school officials decided that it was time that they changed the sound system.

Attendees at the hall also complained that they could not follow announcements properly and there was too much of reverberation.

Analysis

The school’s sound consultant contacted R&S and explained the challenge.

After a series of meetings with the school’s management R&S learnt that the auditorium was a multi-purpose hall which was used to conduct everything from the school’s annual function and PTA meet, to workshops and shows organized by the students.

The school wanted an in-house system which would give consistent high quality reproduction. This would put an end to the hiring of poor quality equipment.

The Solution

The R&S team decided to focus on designing and calibrating a sound reinforcement system which would provide an equal and uniform SPL from front to back and have the highest possible vocal intelligibility.

The design and implementation was effected using sophisticated computer modeling and confirmed with measurements.

The system required not only to provide great sound but also seamlessly integrate with the interiors of the auditorium. This meant that the main speakers were flown for uniform coverage and the low frequency speakers were integrated into the stage.

The system was designed in such a way that the voice of the children could be heard accurately, taking into consideration that some of them would not reach the microphones. Specific microphones were used to make it easy to handle and minimize feedback.

The school was also advised on selection of suitable microphones and proper placement of each of them as per their polar pattern and coverage.

Since the project did not have a trained live sound mixing engineer, R&S had to design the system to be user friendly and automated its functions. R&S set up the system quickly. Plus, we also remained on-site for a week after the installation to troubleshoot any problems in real-time.

We also trained the in-house operators on how to manage the system on their own.

The Result

The staff at Jamnabai were overwhelmed and thrilled at the work done by R&S on their sound systems.

Since the new system was installed, all the cultural events organized at the hall were a huge success.
